Art installations that convey social messages

The children’s section of FEX will present the exhibition “A Child’s View of a World Without Violence”, a symbolic reminder of the need for protection and respect from our very first social steps. Alongside it, visual artist Anthi Kourtidou presents works titled “What They Did Not Have Time to Say”, pieces that turn the experience of silence and the need to be seen into contemporary art.

Talks and contributions of high institutional standing

The event includes contributions from distinguished speakers and organisations:

  • Eliza Vozemberg, Member of the European Parliament, head of the New Democracy delegation in the European Parliament and Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), will deliver a welcome address remotely.
  • Xeni Dimitriou, Honorary Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, will give the lecture “Gender-Based Violence: The Long Road from the Master Builder’s Wife to GREVIO”.
  • Maria Tarasiadou, Head of the Domestic Violence Office of the Xanthi Police Department, will highlight the role of the Hellenic Police in preventing and tackling domestic violence.
  • Emi Chatzipanagioti, physical education teacher, will give the lecture “Self-Defence as a Shield for Women – The Tai Chi Chuan Technique and Its Benefits”.
  • The event will close with the theatre piece “Silence Kills” by the group “Oi Astegoi”, directed by Mr Chaitidis.

These contributions approach gender-based violence from a legal and institutional perspective as well as from a social and educational one.

The event is delivered with the support of #enaevents, the service of ena Development Consultants that specialises in designing and running information, educational and scientific events – in person, hybrid and with remote participation.

Gender-based violence is a multi-dimensional social phenomenon that calls for recognition, ongoing awareness and collective responsibility. Prevention, support and the empowerment of women are key to building an environment of safety and respect, where every woman can speak without fear and no voice is left trapped in silence.
